Google’s pay-per-click advertising network, AdWords, has been hugely influential in the growth of online marketing. By specifying a cost per click, companies can pay for genuine leads to their site and manage the amount they spend per month.

Following Google’s acquisition of YouTube it was only a matter of time before they expanded this pay-per-click model into the online video marketplace.

YouTube is huge. Over 13 hours of video are uploaded onto it every minute, and if it was a search engine, it’d be the world’s second biggest after Google.

Now, it’s possible to generate video content, and promote it to YouTube’s vast audience in a targeted, pay-per-click way.

From Google:

So how does Sponsored Videos work? Easy-to-use automated tools allow content owners to decide where they’d like their videos to appear, place bids in an automated online auction, and set daily spending budgets. Then, when people search for videos, YouTube will display relevant videos alongside the search results. These videos are clearly labeled as “sponsored videos” and are priced on a cost-per-click basis.
