It’s been a year since the BBC launched iPlayer - the free video-on-demand service that lets people in the UK catch up on what they’ve missed on the BBC.
David Bainbridge, Head of Marketing for BBC Future Media & Technology said in this week’s The Drum:
“I think for a while people were questioning what the BBC were up to in the digital world, suggesting we’d fallen behind with all these [web] 2.0 companies coming through. Now we’re the third biggest website in the UK and iPlayer has won a clutch or awards for both technology and marketing”
The effect will “snowball” in the UK, and we’ll see consumers driving up broadband sales and increasingly demaning this kind of experience on the web.
By using Flash video technology they’ve opened up on-demand video to everyone with a modern browser and the free flash player installed.
Big Button are experts in delivering video on the web, and we use the same technology that built iPlayer. If you’d like more information for you or your clients’ campaigns, please give us a call.
